Week #3 Europe pages 74-109

Adam makes it safely to England with no scary
mishaps on the Queen Mary 2- whew!

(Double-decker bus and Big Ben are famous sites in London, England.)

Adam takes a quick side stop to stand on the prime-meridian.

FUN FACTS:
The Prime Meridian is the meridian (line of longitude) which is defined to be 0°.

The Prime Meridian and the opposite 180th meridian (at 180° longitude), which the International Date Line generally follows, form a great circle that divides the Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres.

Standing on the Prime Meridian is a popular touristy thing to do- if you find yourself in Greenwich, England.

On-to FRANCE!

Some sights of Paris :

Adam visited the Arc de Triomphe
The construction of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon, the French Emperor.

Napoleon wanted to honor the Grande Armee, the name of the French army at that time.

The Grande Armee had conquered most of Europe and was then considered invisible. After his Austerlitz victory in 1805, Napoleon said to his soldiers : "You will return home through archs of triumph".

The construction of Arc de Triomphe was completed in 1836, long after Napoleon's death in 1821

Notre Dame Cathedral

Notre-Dame is a Catholic cathedral built during the Middle Ages. (And one of the main tourist attractions with it's breath taking stain-glass windows.)

Eiffel Tower
History behind the Eiffel Tower: It all started with a Design Competition hosted by the French Government in the 1889. They wanted to mark the the anniversary of the French Revolution, and held a design completion for a suitable monument. From over 7 hundred submissions, the proposal by the noted bridge engineer Gustave Eiffel was chosen unanimously. It called for an entirely open-lattice iron tower 984-feet [300-meters] tall.

It was sitting at the base of this grand structure that Adam learned the hard lesson once again: TRUST NO ONE.

Caught by trappers- all for the want of a crepe.

If you would like to taste a crepe {click here} to my personal blog where I share some of our favorite crepe recipes.

Kobenhavn, Denmark:

This Little Mermaid statue is one of the most famous tourist attractions. Created by Edward Eriksen in 1913 who was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale.

This weeks questions:
Adam has had to deal with many trust issues this week. Who to trust? Who is trustworthy?
Mrs. J (His Pilot) had told him to trust no one.

What do you think about this advice? Now he has teamed up with Meredith... is that a smart move?

Prince Oh advises against Adam forming a team with Meredith... but he (Prince Oh) has lied to Adam too! Can Prince Oh be trusted?

And once someone has betrayed a trust... can you trust them in the future? What do you think?

Kali says; That is good advise. I don't think that he can trust anyone.
Joseph says, Adam can trust Meredith and Skypoke Crisp.

Kali says, Teaming up with Meredith is not a smart move. She can't be trusted and might do anything to win the game.

Joseph says that teaming up with Meredith is ok for now, but anything could happen.

Joseph says I think that you can trust someone in the future because you have to forgive them.
I think that maybe Prince Oh is right, but maybe he is wrong.

Kali says, I think what Prince Oh is saying could be true but it is kind of hard to trust someone in the future if they have lied to you. Case closed.

I think it would be a bad choice to trust people, because some times people don't learn from their mistakes. Thought he probably will still trust the people, I hope he doesn't.

Kali says, that is exactly what I think Zac! It is hard to trust someone who has betrayed you.

Kali says, I really enjoy looking at all the really cool facts and pictures that are on the bookclub website. It is fun to browse through all of the facts. I love the pictures too. My fav link was the one about QM2.

Kali also says, Wow! I am commenting a lot. Anyway I really like the selection of the book because it is a great adventure. Joseph gave his copy to Thomas so he could read it, and i am going to give my copy to Kanani.

P.S Kanani is a girl on my hockey team who likes to read.

Joseph says, Adam should just listen to MVP. Whatever they say is good and can be trusted.
Also, I think that we should forgive people, even if they lied to us before.

Joseph says, I liked the pictures of the Eiffel Tower and Rockerfeller Center. I want to go there some day. I would like to go with my whole family next fall, but not around the world so quite like Adam.

Adam can trust his team.

Trust no one is good advice for Adam. Teaming up with Meredith was not a smart move because Meredith could call her team and then her team could send trackers to get Adam.

Prince Oh can't be trusted, either because he lied to Adam. Sometimes you can trust someone who has lied to you in the future after they have said they're sorry and vowed not to lie again.

This week was awesome! Full of adventure!

From Connor:

Great ideas, everyone! I wish I could come over to your houses.

Amanda said...

From Connor:

If Adam can't trust anyone, who can he trust? He can trust God and Jesus because they don't lie or do anything bad.

Amanda said...

From Connor:

Upon further consideration, Connor thinks Adam can somtimes trust Meredith and MVP but not trust Prince Oh.

What great comments guys! I think normally, you should trust people and give them the benefit of the doubt.

Meaning: it is better to trust people and be friends with everyone... who wants to always walk around NOT trusting people?
Because more times than not... people are good and trust worthy.

BUT Adam is in a game. And the prize is BIG BIG BIG! So people might be tempted to make a bad choice and break a trust to win the prize. (Thinking, later - after they win- they can make it up to them.)

I think having an all expense paid trip around the world would be a great prize in itself...

Lyons Den said...

Joseph says, you are right Connor, you can always trust God and Jesus.

Lyons Den said...

Kali:
Connor is right. Jesus and God are always trustworthy. I know that in a game people WILL do anything to win. Especially when the prize is big. I know this for a fact.

(My birthday is in 4 days on the 14! I am going to be 11! Yeah!)

Kali:
I think that Swirl is right that you should trust people, but it is hard to trust people in this game to travel the world, because you don't know if the person that "says" that they can help you might be stoppers or a tracker. What? You never know.

Dear Swirl,

Thank you for putting the cool facts on your bookclub website. I really enjoy looking at the facts and pictures. It is fun to learn stuff. I love the one about QM2. Thank you for picking the book MVP*. I just couldn't stop reading it and I did not want to ethier. FYI: On my fieldtrip today for summer school I went to the Polynesian Culture Center and my mom told me that was by your house.
